BHEDAGHAT
The Small village of Jabalpur tehsil
situated on the bank of river Narmada and widely famous for its marble Rocks is at a distance about 21 Km from Jabalpur by
road. Soaring in glittering splendour, the Marble Rocks at Bhedaghat rise to a hundred feet on either side of
the Narmada. The serene loveliness of the scene is one of cool quiet, the sunlight sparkling on the marble-white
pinnacles and casting dappled shadows on the pellucid waters. Sunlight, now glancing from a pinnacle of snow-white marble
reared against the deep blue of the sky as from a point of silver ; touching here and there with bright lights the prominences
of the middle heights; and again losing itself in the soft bluish grays of their recesses….. Here and there the white
saccharine limestone is seamed by veins of dark green or black volcanic rock; a contrast which only enhances, like a setting
of jet, the purity of the surrounding marble."
The Narmada, making its way through
the Marble Rocks, Narrows down and then plunges in a waterfall Rocks, narrow down and then plinges in a waterfall known as
Dhuandhar or the smoke cascade. So powerful is the plunge that its roar is heard from a far distance, The falls and the breaking
of the volume of water at the crest present an awesome spectacle of Nature's power unleashed.

CHAUSAT
YOGINI TEMPLE
Situated atop a hill rock and approached by a long flight of steps, the Chausat
Yogini Temple commands a singularly beautiful view of the Narmada flowing through the jagged Marble Rocks.
Dedicated to Goddess Durga, this 10th century temple has exquisitely carved stone figures of deities belonging
to the Kalchuri period. According to a local legend, this ancient temple is connected to the Gond Queen Durgavati's
palace through an undergroung passage.
The Chausat Yogini temple, or the temple
of 64 yoginis is situated atop a hill in Bhedaghat. It was built around 1000 AD by the then rulers who wished safety and prosperity
of their kingdom. Tantric rites like Chakra puja were perfomed here. It is one of the rare temples of erstwhile Shakti worship.
One has to climb 150 plus steps to reach
the temple. One can get views of the meandering Narmada from this hill temple. The froth from the Dhuandhar waterfall is also
visible from this hill.
MADAN MAHAL FORT
Madan Mahal Fort of the Queen Durgavati. Built by
the Gond ruler, Raja Madan Shah, in 1116 atop a rocky hill, the fort dominates the skyline and provides a panoramic view of
the town and the country-side around it. There are several secret underground tunnels in the fort.

BARGI DAM & TEMAR FALL
Bargi is a place on the shores of Narmada, south-west
of Jabalpur, and around 40 km. away from main city.
From the Nagpur highway, NH7 an 11 km drive inwards leads to the
beautiful and famous bargi dam. The small dam is a major source for water through its canals and of course, electricity. The
site requires a mandatory entry of visitors at the 'naka' and the area is open for visitors till late evening.
Nearby is a stream of river which is a favourite
picnic destination called Temar falls. The place is beautiful and serene and ideal for tourists and picnics. The waters at
Temar are only knee deep and ideal for a whole day picnic. So dont forget your towels before you go! The nearby colony of
Bargi nagar has all the amenities available and people are cooperative. It is however recommended that all needful things
are carried like water bottles and food. Also, please keep the place clean!
Also worth visiting is the ancient and famous temple
at the mountain-top. The approach to the top, is by stairs and also by well built road(even buses can go right to the top). The
temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was reinstated in its present form and place by His Highness Sankaracharyaji. One can
get a very beautiful view of the dam and catchment area from the temple.
One last thing, as usual, the road to Bargi
from jabalpur is not very good at places, and is a frequent but green highway with steep curves, so drive carefully. There
is a petrol pump near Tilwara bridge and a few kms away too, where you can also have food, tea etc. at the 'dhaba'. So, gear
up your belts and have a great time.
